What To Wear For Turkmenistan ?
Hello Classy People,
Packing for Turkmenistan was surprisingly easy.
The country’s dress codes are naturally aligned with my personal style, making the process feel intuitive rather than restrictive.
Over the years, especially since entering my thirties, I have gradually shifted my wardrobe choices towards a more classic and elegant approach.
While trends continue to evolve, I have found myself increasingly attracted to timeless silhouettes, refined cuts, and pieces that prioritize sophistication over excess.
In Turkmenistan, women’s fashion tends to embrace modesty.
Long sleeves are common, while legs and cleavage are generally covered.
As a result, maxi dresses, flowing silhouettes, coordinated trouser sets, and long tops fit seamlessly into the local aesthetic. Rather than adapting my style to the destination, I felt as though I was arriving in a place where my fashion preferences already belonged.
For this trip, I selected three contemporary looks along with one Tekchita, the traditional Moroccan dress that I wore for the gala dinner. Bringing a piece of Moroccan heritage to such a special occasion felt meaningful, creating a beautiful cultural dialogue between Morocco and Turkmenistan.
Look 1: The Statement Khaki Dress
My first look was a khaki green dress enhanced with colorful details on the sleeves and around the collar. Khaki is a shade I wear frequently because it complements brown skin beautifully, but I wanted the outfit to have an extra fashion dimension.
After all, I was attending a fashion event. A simple dress with no distinctive elements would not have reflected the creativity of the environment. The colorful embellishments added personality and visual interest while maintaining the elegance and modesty required for the occasion.
Look 2: Relaxed Tailoring with Character
The second look stayed within the same khaki color palette.
This time, I opted for a coordinated set consisting of straight ankle-length trousers paired with a long, relaxed-cut shirt.
The styling detail made all the difference. Instead of wearing the shirt completely loose or fully tucked in, I inserted only a small section into the waistband.
This subtle gesture defined the waist while allowing the remaining fabric to drape freely. The result was an intentionally asymmetrical silhouette that felt modern, effortless, and uniquely styled.
Look 3: The Art of Layering White
For my third look, I embraced the elegance of a total white ensemble.
I paired wide-leg linen trousers with a short white dress worn as a top.
One of my favorite styling techniques is to repurpose dresses that fall above the knee and feature a bell-shaped cut by layering them over trousers. This creates movement, dimension, and a silhouette that feels both contemporary and sophisticated.
Because an all-white look acts as a blank canvas, I introduced a long green scarf as the focal accessory. Beyond covering the neckline, it transformed the outfit through its versatility. Depending on the moment, it could be worn as a headscarf or left loose to float behind me while walking, bringing movement and poetry to the overall silhouette.
Fashion Beyond Borders
What I appreciated most about dressing for Turkmenistan was realizing how fashion can create unexpected connections between cultures. Although Morocco and Turkmenistan are geographically distant, both countries value elegance, femininity, and garments that celebrate beauty without excessive exposure.
